Tag-Themed Cinnamon Rolls
I had an idea, a day off, and poor impulse control! So: Tag themed cinnamon rolls!
I used blackstrap molasses and dried cranberries to represent the malice and I think the choice of pastry is pretty obvious.
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose or bread flour
- 1 teaspoons yeast
- 1 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 tablespoon and 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons cold butter and some melted butter
- 1 egg
- About 3/4 cup half and half
(or milk, the recipes I found say milk, but I didn’t have any so I used half and half)
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
- Some blackstrap molasses
- Small handful of dried cranberries
Instructions
- Combine the flour, yeast, salt, sugar, 2 teaspoon cinnamon, and butter in a food processor.
- Pulse it until the butter is cut throughout the flour.
- Add the egg and pulse a few more times. With the machine running, slowly add 3/4 cup of half and half.
(I think I overmixed it? My processor doesn't seem to have a “slow” option.)
- Turn the dough onto a floured work surface and, by hand, knead a bit. Put in another teaspoon cinnamon while you do that so it’s marbled.
(It wouldn’t marble, but see overmixed above.)
- Form a smooth, round dough ball, put in a bowl, and cover with plastic wrap and let it rise for an hour.
- In a small bowl, combine 1 tablespoons ground cinnamon with 1/4 cup sugar.
- Roll the dough into a flat big rectangle on the floured surface.
- Drizzle blackstrap molasses on it and spread out. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar evenly over the top. Scatter some dried cranberries over that.
- Roll it up along the long edge and try to make it stay closed.
- Slice it up and put the rounds on a buttered cookie sheet.
(Use one with a lip! At least now I know my fire alarm works...)
- Let it rise for another hour.
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Drizzle tops with melted butter, a bit more molasses, a little left over cinnamon sugar, and sprinkle with dried cranberries
- Put on middle rack.
- Bake for thirty minutes. Ish.
